The tradition of don Juan Tama is a Nasa story. During a storm, a star put Juan Tama in Lucero stream, located in Páramo de the MORAS.
A Nasa woman found the child and took him to her house. The Nasa people carried him and fed him with cow´s milk.
Time passed and the boy grew up and became a leader of the Nasa people. After that, he established the resguardos (the villages where Nasa people live). Then, he made the rules for his people.
When Juan Tama grew older, he came back to his birth place, Lucero stream. He reached the lagoon, which is now called Juan Tama in his honor.
Every year, the Nasa people visits the place to celebrate the stick refreshing rituals.
